i never heard of any sister having an abortion - doesn't mean it didn't happen, just that i never heard of one.. i've personally known child abusers, closet gays, drunks and thieves all within my time at just 2 congregations.
i know one brother who hid the fact he had blood transfusions at a critical time.
now i'm certainly not lumping in an abortion with acts of abuse or dishonesty, and for the record i don't consider it a 'sin' (whatever that is).
I knew of a young woman who had 3 abortions. Somehow her friend (my ex's sister) that told on her was stumbled by the brothers reaction. Somehow blaming her for either not telling soon enough or something. The girl was never DF'd, but reproved and her friend faded.
Sadly she has since passed away from Cancer.
i knew of a handful (which is too many) that were molested by a jehovah's witness.
it was not typical in my experience.

I think so.. Im reading a book right now about the FLDS which are more extreme in many ways but they are a branch off Mormonism. Definetely a dangerous cult.
Mormons restrict many areas of life just as Witnesses do. No coffee or warm beverages, no alcohol, dress and grooming etc.

When I was a young girl I was at a Return visit with my "spiritual grandma". She was annointed and took my Mother and I under her wing. Lovely lady I still love her.. anyways. The house was filthy and smelled like cat pee. I guess I was locking my knees or something too because I started to feel dizzy. I tugged on my grandmas shirt to try to let her know I was fainting and she shrugged me off. I walked out the door and passed out on the porch. It was embarrasing but it's not that great a story compared to so many on here!
I also hated it when people wouldn't turn on the air conditioning!!

Scientology is worse IMO. For instance, if you disagree with them and they choose to disfellowship you or whatever they call it, they sit your spouse down and tell them "either you divorce your spouse, or you're out too".

That's good she's still alive. My hubby is in the military and they beefed up security out here after the incident.
I'm thinking of all the families affected :( It's so horrible. I think they said they were just in training too. Their families didn't even have time to prepare for the fact that their husbands/children were in danger. When they are deployed, you have some sort of mental prep even though you are never fully prepared for that sort of news. I know, I usually feel a sense of security when I'm on a base. I know I shouldn't, but it's the tendency.
